January 28, 2004 The 800x600 pictures that used to be on this page were too small to be desktop pictures for modern computers, so I've replaced them with 1024x768 pictures. All but one of the 8 are new.

The old page, from 11/30/2000, had this comment: "I've found that a good desktop picture is not the same thing as a good picture. A desktop picture should still be a nice background even if most of it is covered. Good, but subdued, colors and textures help, while a strong subject is less important." To this I would add that it is good for the picture to be inviting, to show a place where it would be nice to be.

There are three versions of each picture:

  • A 100 x 75 thumbnail (4K).
  • A bigger version that is 400 x 300 (10 - 40K).
  • The biggest version is 1024 x 768 (100 - 400K).

All pictures on this page (in all three versions) are Copyright 2000-2004 Paul C. Pratt. Permission is granted to redistribute unmodified copies of these pictures on the condition that copyright is acknowledged (as in "Paul C. Pratt, www.gryphel.net") and that you notify me of such use.

The information given for each picture is

[Year].[Month].[Day].[picture#]
